West Coast weekly wrap up 12-03-12

This is a new feature we are introducing to LMULIONSROAR which we are aiming to publish every Monday during the season.  It will contain game summaries from the past week, as well as news and notes from around the league.

Brigham Young (5-3)- The Cougars lost to Iowa State on the road on 12-01. Ames is a very difficult  place to get a win for any team. The Cougars take on in state rivals Utah State on 12-05. The Cougars are looking for payback from last seasons loss to the Aggies. Utah State didn’t exactly roll out the red carpet for BYU when the played last year.

Gonzaga (8-0)- Zags destroyed NAIA  Lewis Clark State on 11-29. A testament of  the Zags depth, Kyle Draginis, a freshman who comes off the bench scored 30 points in the contest. Future WCC member Pacific, had a nice win over St. Mary’s earlier this season, but it was a whole different story when they faced the Zags on 12-01 and lost by 18 points. This is a nice line to welcome the Tigers to the WCC.  Zags head out on the road to take on a struggling Washington State team on  12-05, then have a big test against #22 Illinois on 12-08. Zags remain undefeated have moved up to #10 in the poll. The only thing that hasn’t gone right for the Zags is this fans half court shot attempt.

Pepperdine (4-3)-  Disappointing loss on the road to Utah Valley State on 12-01. The Waves haven’t played the strongest schedule but were on a four game win streak. Next up is UC Riverside (2-6) at home on 12-05. It should be noted how well freshman Stacy Davis has been playing for the Waves. He is the Waves second leading scorer at 12 ppg.

Portland (3-4)- Pilots lost on the road to Washington State on 12-01 shooting only 36%. This upcoming week is quite a big one for the Pilots. They take on #24 UNLV on 12-04 then it is off to take on a school called the University of Kentucky on 12-08. Wildcats are ranked #8 in the nation.

San Francisco (4-1)- The Dons have a nice four game winning streak going. UCLA transfer De’End Parker has already had a huge impact leading the Dons at 19 ppg. Dons took care of business at home against Montana on 11-30. The Dons have a big game against St. John’s on 12-05. It has to be noted that Cole Dickerson is leading the nation in rebounding at 15 per game! He has also been named Player-of-the-week.

San Diego (3-5)- The Toreros need to turn things around quickly. They are on a three game losing streak. Toreros lost to very good Stephen F. Austin (5-0) on the road  12-01. USD have a chance to get a road win against struggling Southern Utah on 12-04

Saint Mary’s (5-2)- A nice win over Cal Poly on 12-01 for the Gales who ended a two game losing streak.  SMC shot 64% from the field and over 58% from behind the arc. Up next the Gaels take on a 3-3 Drake Bulldogs team on the road.

Santa Clara (5-2)- Two tough OT loss for the Broncos. The game against UCSB was a heart breaker  as the Broncos had a chance to win in regulation but Kyle Boswell hit a 3 to send the game into overtime. The Broncos should get a easy win against Pacific Union on 12-08. On the bright side, Santa Clara is 9th in the nation in scoring which is 7th in the nation.
