LMU WBB stellar 2017 recruiting class

By Iron Lion

The 2017 LMU WBB recruiting class is the best in program history. Head Coach Charity Elliott and Associate Head Coach April Phillips, and the rest of the staff have put together an astounding class. There have been some really excellent players to suit up for the Lions, but this group is nothing like I have ever seen in 20 years following the women’s program.

Things started out with a bang when Gabby Green announced that she would transfer to LMU from Cal over the summer . Coming out of high school, Green was a 5 start recruit receiving 98 ranking  on ESPN. She was ranked #12 prospect   in the nation overall,  and was also a McDonald’s All-America; I believe the first to  every play for LMU. Green will sit out this year due to NCAA transfer rules. Her full bio can be read here.

Also sitting out this year after transferring to LMU is Josie Buckingham, a 6-5 center who was previously at Minnesota. Buckingham will be one of the tallest players in LMU history, and is sure to make a impact next year as well.  Joining Green and Buckingham are two very highly rated recruits.

Jasmin Jones a 5-11 forward from Torrance committed to LMU earlier this summer. Jones is ranked #50 prospect over all in the class of 2017. Jones is also a five star recruit receiving a 96 ranking on ESPN.

Rounding out the class is 5-7 point guard Chelsey Gipson, who sits just out the ESPN top 50 at 53. Gipson has a ESPN ranking of 95 -one point shy of a 5 star ranking.

This is truly an incredible group of players which should rank the 2017 class as one of the best in the nation. I’m excited for this season to get underway but can’t wait till next year already.

Go Lions.
