WCC Recruiting rundown

By Ironlion
A fair amount of time has passed since my last WCC recruiting rundown, and I figure an update is due.

BYU- As expected Eric Mika’s stock really rose over the summer and vaulted him into a top 100 ranking. Mika, Nick Emery, (another top 100 recruit) Jakob Hartsock and Briaden Shaw make up a superb class. BYU also recently added a very good power forward in Luke Worthington. The BYU 2013 class is currently ranked #7 nationally. Things will really get interesting if Jabari Parker, the #1 ranked player over all, keeps the Cougars in his consideration. Parker has already visited BYU on a unofficial visit. I think it would be great for the WCC if he commits BYU.

Gonzaga- Things haven’t been too dandy for the Zags since the last report. Their “priority” recruits Jordan Mathews and Darin Johnson both eliminated GU from consideration. (Mathew’s just committed to CAL) It looks like the 2014 class is the one that is really important for the Zags.

Pepperdine- The splash that the Waves made with the commitment of Brandon Randolph quickly ebbed as he reneged on his verbal a week later.  However, Jeff Van Dkye a long range sniper, who can really shoot the lights out, committed to the Waves as well.

Pacific- Tigers got two solid commitments in the past week. An interesting note is that the new coach has yet to be named after Bob Thomason retires after this season.

Portland- No change since last report. At one point the Pilots were recruiting a very good Los Angeles SG Kris Yanku. I thought Yanku was very under rated and I believe NAU got a steal in him when he committed last week.

Saint Mary’s- Stop me if you have heard this before…SMC got a commitment from an Australian. Dane Pineau joins the very talented SMC class of Cullen Neal and Calvin Hermanson.

San Franciso- No new updates but USF did get a new logo. I will keep what I feel about it to myself. I believe officially USF does not have any scholarships for 2013 but when I check the Dons’ Rivals.com profile there are 46 players being recruited.

Santa Clara- I believe the Broncos have a lot of scholarships to fill in 2013. They recently got on the board with a commitment from a talented SG from Arizona Jalen Richard.

San Diego- Brett Bailey could be a real steal for USD. He committed early and stuck with the Toreros even after a very good summer.
